PSYCHOLOGY AND CANCER - WEBINAR

Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases in the world, and its many different forms are widespread all over the world. However, while a lot is known about the physical aspects of the disease, there is a pressing need to talk about the psychological implications of this disease.
Dr.Shoma Chakrawarty was the resource speaker for the webinar on “Psychology and cancer” which was held on 4th September 2020, between 2 to 3.30 pm for the psychology students of the CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Bannerghatta Road campus, Bangalore.
Dr. Shoma spoke to the students about basic psycho-oncology and tried to give a perspective on how people suffering from cancer, as well as their caretakers, feel about the disease and how it affects their lives. She also spoke about end-of-life care and the idea of a terminal disease, that can severely affect one’s mental health and ideas about life and death.
All the information was presented in as easy and light manner as possible, while not making light of the subject, which allowed students to follow along without being too overwhelmed. The facilitator spoke in depth about processes that people suffering from cancer are taken through to help them cope with it, and related her experiences working with such populations to make everything much more relatable. The talk was extremely helpful, and the students took away quite a lot, especially a new perspective which most of us are lucky to not have had personally.
